In response to this, a new hospital was constructed to better serve our community.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5898649\" data-block-id=\"5898649\"><style>.stk-5898649{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The new Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital provides services and facility enhancements that are recognized by every patient and visitor. It is a place where babies are born, children are stitched, surgeries are performed and seniors are healed. Between initial planning and when the hospital opened in 2011, the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Foundation raised funds for special equipment. The priority project was the purchase and installation of a CT scanner, providing state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging to the community.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-f2c0acb\" data-block-id=\"f2c0acb\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Hospital foundations across Canada are renowned for their work in providing additional resources for health care facilities in their communities. The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Foundation\u2019s mandate is simple: to enhance health care in our community and surrounding region.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-button-group stk-block-button-group stk-block stk-feb7dff\" data-block-id=\"feb7dff\"><div class=\"stk-row stk-inner-blocks stk-block-content stk-button-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-button stk-block-button stk-block stk-c83ef4d\" data-block-id=\"c83ef4d\"><style>.stk-c83ef4d{min-height:20px !important}.stk-c83ef4d .stk-button__inner-text{color:var(--theme-palette-color-5,#e1e8ed) !important}<\/style><a class=\"stk-link stk-button stk--hover-effect-darken\" href=\"https:\/\/fschf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ctscan_folder040.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"has-text-color stk-button__inner-text\">CT Scanner<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-ce10bec\" data-block-id=\"ce10bec\"><style>.stk-ce10bec{height:70px !important}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block stk-290e015\" id=\"womens-health\" data-block-id=\"290e015\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Women\u2019s Health<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b005db9\" data-block-id=\"b005db9\"><style>.stk-b005db9{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The Women\u2019s Health Program Enhancement at the Fort Saskatchewan is a tremendous success, thanks to the community. 1751.75 hours of extended training by hospital staff were completed in operating room education, emergency and day surgery education and inpatient education specific to women\u2019s health issues. The Fort has extended skills and means to successfully implement and support the expanded women\u2019s health program for gynecology and LDR patients.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8509ab9\" data-block-id=\"8509ab9\"><style>.stk-8509ab9{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">This is an overview of how the Women\u2019s Health Program at FSCH was enhanced as of July 4 2017. It is a welcome addition for families using the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5f66acf\" data-block-id=\"5f66acf\"><style>.stk-5f66acf{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>How do we start the enhancement?<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-7c2d5db\" data-block-id=\"7c2d5db\"><style>.stk-7c2d5db{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Prior to Dr. Oyewole our Chief of Women\u2019s Health starting Apr 1, 2016, there were months of prep work, meetings and discussion about how to enhance our Women\u2019s Health Program at the Fort. We had been delivering babies for years but we needed more structure and a solid focus on what we wanted to achieve.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-81d8a43\" data-block-id=\"81d8a43\"><style>.stk-81d8a43{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Where it all began\u2026<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-7dd201e\" data-block-id=\"7dd201e\"><style>.stk-7dd201e{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Foundation provided funds necessary for the Hospital to offer education to IPU, ER, DS and the OR staff on the most current practices and equipment being used to care for Gynecology and LDR patients.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5f3de37\" data-block-id=\"5f3de37\"><style>.stk-5f3de37{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Inpatient Unit Education<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6eedbd3\" data-block-id=\"6eedbd3\"><style>.stk-6eedbd3{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In May and June all of the Labour and Delivery nurses received 4 days of education to ensure that they were being taught the same policies, processes, procedures and guidelines as the rest of the Edmonton Zone.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-60854ed\" data-block-id=\"60854ed\"><style>.stk-60854ed{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">All RN\u2019s and LPN\u2019s were the given half a day of education about the gynecological procedures that were to be performed at our site.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-c3c937a\" data-block-id=\"c3c937a\"><style>.stk-c3c937a{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">All new RN\u2019s being trained to Labour and Delivery now receive the same education as the RAH and the Sturgeon, which are 10 classroom days followed by 5 buddy shifts.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-22732cf\" data-block-id=\"22732cf\"><style>.stk-22732cf{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">This brings the total education for IPU to 1262.75 hours.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4e13289\" data-block-id=\"4e13289\"><style>.stk-4e13289{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Emergency and Day Surgery Education<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a5dc569\" data-block-id=\"a5dc569\"><style>.stk-a5dc569{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">All ER and DS nursing staff received a 4 hour education session about the new gynecological procedures that Dr. Oyewole would be performing.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-3bacc6a\" data-block-id=\"3bacc6a\"><style>.stk-3bacc6a{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The ER nurses were educated on the new Women\u2019s Health Processes Emergency Nursing Orientation modules and emergency considerations for both OB and Gyne situations.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b8c357d\" data-block-id=\"b8c357d\"><style>.stk-b8c357d{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The total educations for ER\/DS were 188<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-589b112\" data-block-id=\"589b112\"><style>.stk-589b112{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Operating Room Education<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5cc1c65\" data-block-id=\"5cc1c65\"><style>.stk-5cc1c65{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">These are some of the new services being offered at our site:<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Abdominal hysterectomy<\/li><li>Vaginal hysterectomy<\/li><li>Cauterization of endometriosis<\/li><li>Tubal ligation and many more<\/li><li>Having these new services meant that we were in need of new equipment<\/li><li>All of the OR staff were invited to a Vendor Fair to see the equipment and then were provided with in-servicing on how to use the new instruments.<\/li><li>The OR nursing staff also received training on the new procedures, this resulted in a total of 301 hours of education.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-713fbd9\" data-block-id=\"713fbd9\"><style>.stk-713fbd9{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p data-block-id=\"aa738ac\"><style>.stk-aa738ac{margin-bottom:20px !important}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In September we created our WPMT- Women\u2019s Program Management Team. This is our Core moreOB Team, also known as our Quality Council. Our team is made up of Nursing, MD\u2019s, a Unit Clerk, Midwifery and Management.
