In recent years, AHS has had more than 1300 different health information systems all operating independently, until now. AHS has recently implemented an action plan to centralize these information systems into one program, termed Connect Care. This will allow for all of a patient\u2019s medical history, past diagnostic tests, doctor\u2019s notes, and other key information to be in one place, and easily assessable to any healthcare team in the province regardless of where they are located.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>So, what does all of this mean for patients themselves? Well, since this information is readily available for clinicians, patients won\u2019t have to restate their histories nearly as often and won\u2019t have to worry about leaving out valuable information. As well, this information is will not only be accessible to healthcare providers, but also to patients themselves. Patients will also be able to view their own health records, allowing them to be more involved in their health and the care they receive.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The first wave of Connect Care was implemented this November and is expected to be established province wide (including our community hospital) by late 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This is a very multi-faceted program that will bring many benefits to our province\u2019s health at large, too many to explain in one single article.
